The Czech Republic became independent in 1993 following the so-called Velvet Divorce which saw it separate from Slovakia but it wasn't until 2007 that the country joined the Eurovision Song Contest. The capital Prague is one of the most popular destinations for city breaks in Europe.

The Czech Republic's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest is organised through broadcaster Czech Television. In 2007 a national final was held to determine the Czech entry for Eurovision but since then internal selections have taken place. Czech Television launched a national selection for the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest and hosted Eurovision Young Dancers in Prague in 2017.
The Czech Republic have yet to win the Eurovision Song Contest and has only qualified for the Grand Final once, in 2016.
