Albania has a population of 3.2 million and the capital city is Tirana.

In 2004, Albania's first entry at Eurovision Song Contest, performed by Anjeza Shahini, finished seventh in the Grand Final. This remained the country's best result in the contest until 2012 when Rona Nishliu placed fifth.
The Albanian national broadcaster Radio Televizioni Shqiptar (RTSH) uses the long-standing Albanian song contest, Festivali i Këngës, to select the Albanian Eurovision Song Contest entry. The competition has been organised every year since 1962 and in 2003 it was used to select the Albanian Eurovision entry for the following year.
